- Be comfortable as a diver first. Don’t add a camera and gear to the mix while you are first learning to dive.
- Research the marine life you will be seeing so you can identify them and know whether they are safe to approach.
- Decide on what type of camera fulfills your needs as a photographer – SLR or gopro??
- Learn and be confident in basic camera terms and settings. In general you will want:
- ISO Low
- white balance to daylight
- f – stop set mid range
- high shutter speed
- Learn to recognize and employ the rules of picture composition.
- Use available light whenever possible.
- Move in closer – zooming in tends to degrade the picture quality.
